Stock tracking questions
When should we use serial numbers?
For items where the individual unit matters - equipment, electronics, anything with warranty or service history. The serial follows the unit from receipt to customer.
When are batches the right tool?
For products made or received in lots - food, chemicals, materials - where expiry dates and recall traceability matter more than individual identity.
Can one product use both?
Yes - tracking is set per product, so a catalogue can mix serialised equipment, batch-tracked consumables and simple untracked items.
